“The Work That Reconnects” is a workshop series that explores how to evoke creative, compassionate and trans~formational responses to the ecological crises of our time.

Drawing from deep ecology, systems theory and spiritual traditions. The Work That Reconnects builds motivation, creativity, courage and solidarity for the transition to a sustainable human culture. First emerging in 1978, this pioneering, open-source body of work has its roots in the teachings and experiential methods of Joanna Macy.

Eco-philosopher Joanna Macy, Ph.D., is a scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology. A respected voice in movements for peace, justice, and ecology, she interweaves her scholarship with four decades of activism. She has created a ground-breaking theoretical framework for personal and social change, as well as a powerful workshop methodology for its application.

[3] A fine interview. “The ones with a broken heart are the most interesting. When your heart breaks, that’s what allows the love to come through strong.” ~ [Joanna Macy]

(Natasha Oda was Miss Aloha, Merrie Monarch, 2001. Many have considered
it the finest performance ever seen at the annual festival. Natasha’s
mother was a prior Miss Aloha. Certainly she was raised with hula in
her blood and bones. Note her unique way of initially expressing her
total connection to her moment of history and her remarkable performance)

[4] Francis Weller is a wise and compassionate inner guide who
has specialized in ‘grief work’ for 30 years. Learning to carry
our grief skillfully and allow it to deepen us is a large part of
the inner work of discovery and recovery of our time.

[5] There is much wisdom in this interview. It provides much
creative insight into grief work in groups and the wider issues
and skills that are involved. Highly recommended.

This is a powerful documentary about an extraordinary woman. At age 44, Mildred Norman left her life circumstances and became simply, “Peace Pilgrim” — walking coast to coast for peace for nearly 30 years, living on faith and sharing her wisdom and exuberance generously with people across the land. This 60-minute documentary is a poetic and musical exploration of her life and message, which is as relevant today as ever. It is also a marvelous story of how one person if truly connected with the ‘Great Mystery’ can discover and evoke extraordinary results. Her heart was full of her passion and love for others to see, to understand, and to heal.

Also included are interviews with Dalai Lama, Maya Angelou, John Robbins, Elizabeth Kubler Ross, and many of Peace Pilgrim’s friends, admirers, and relatives, along with newsreel footage from the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s, when Peace was on her walk for peace. The video is narrated by Reverend Michael Beckwith.

NOTE: An excellent example of universal (to essentially all cultures)
and perennial (or timeless) wisdom. This is Perennial Philosophy of the
first rank. Attributed to Confucius [551 to 479 B.C.]. SCROLL BAR

(Two very wise Hopi elders age 93 and 97 speaking into this moment
of history in 2000. It is not prophecy as much as it is seeing and
understanding. This is where the famous “We are the ones we have
been waiting for.” finds its origin. It is truer today than when
it was first spoken). Note: SCROLL BAR

(This is a series of short clips from Terrence McKenna’s [1946-2000]
presentations. Thoughtful, wise and unique. Excellent as a resource
for a group questions and comments as the clips are condensed and
most certainly deal with the cultural passage we all inhabit).
